I came across Susan Weinroth’s blog a while back and I can’t get enough. I LOVE her modern baby quilts! My sister bought me a sewing machine for Christmas so I thought that this was a perfect opportunity to make my own quilt.
I went through the fabric that I’ve been hording but nothing was suitable. I loved the colours and fabrics that Susan was using so I did a little research and discovered designer fabrics that I didn’t even know existed: Amy Butler, Michael Miller, Robert Kaufman...
I searched for a local fabric store that carried those designs. I finally found some at Dress Sew in Gastown.
Picking out fabrics was harder than I thought it would be. After an hour or so, I found 4 that I thought would look nice together.I went home and made eight 5” squares out of each fabric. I randomly placed them on the floor to get an idea how the quilt was going to look.
I sewed all the squares together. Now I just need to do the trim around it and the backing.
I think have a lot more work ahead of me. Part two will have to be continued at a later date…
